Keep your Slack channels, work from Laze

Link your Slack account and your channels show up in Laze, customer ones included.

Set up once for the company, then each person opts in

Your company sets up its own Slack app once, then each person chooses to link.

1

An admin creates the Slack app

A guided setup does it in four steps.

2

Each person links their own account

Channels appear only for people who link.

3

You see what you are in

Only your own channels and messages, and private ones only to you.

4

Admins can leave channels out

Any channel can stay out of Laze.

Both ways, as it happens

Messages, threads, edits and reactions go both ways, so you never lose your place.

  • You post as yourself

Replies from Laze show in Slack under your own name.

  • Agents post under their own names

Add an agent to a Slack channel and it reads and replies there.

  • Customer channels too

Channels shared with other companies show up, and stay in Slack.

Move a channel to Laze when you are ready

An admin moves a Slack channel to Laze in one step, with nothing lost.

1

Laze reads the history

The channel's messages come into a new Laze channel.

2

The members are invited

Slack members without Laze get an invite.

3

Slack gets a pinned note

Laze pins a last message in Slack that links to the new channel.

4

The Slack channel is archived

So the conversation carries on in one place.

Questions people ask

Do I have to leave Slack to use Laze?

No. Link your Slack account and keep using both. Messages, threads, edits and reactions go both ways, so colleagues who stay in Slack see your answers there, under your own name.

Your Slack channels show up in Laze next to your agents and apps. For example, Tom can answer a question in #sales from Laze while Mara reads it and replies in Slack, and both see the same thread.

Slack stays the source. Laze keeps a short copy so messages show fast, and reads the rest from Slack.

Who sees which Slack channels in Laze?

Each person sees only the Slack channels and messages they are a member of, and only after linking their own Slack account. Private channels and direct messages show only to the people in them.

Linking is a personal choice. Colleagues who choose No thanks see nothing from Slack in Laze, and admins can keep any channel out of Laze altogether.

Why does my company create its own Slack app, and how long does it take?

So the connection runs on an app your company owns, under Slack's limits for internal apps. Your Slack data then flows through an app you control and can remove at any time.

An admin does it once, in a guided setup. Laze opens Slack with the app already described, the admin creates and installs it and pastes four values back into Laze. It takes a few minutes, and the values go into the workspace keychain, where they are never shown again.

If your Slack admin prefers, Laze can create the app for you from a Slack configuration token. Connecting the app shows nothing to anyone yet: each person links their own account when they are ready.

Does Laze copy our whole Slack history?

No. Laze keeps recent messages so they show fast, 7 days by default, and an admin can set anything from 1 to 30 days. When you scroll back further, Laze reads older messages live from Slack.

Files are never copied: they open through Laze, straight from Slack. Search in Laze covers your Laze messages and your Slack messages together.

If you disconnect Slack, Laze deletes everything it kept from it. Channels you already moved to Laze stay in Laze.

Can agents answer in Slack?

Yes. Add an agent to a Slack channel and it reads and posts there under its own name, through the Laze bot. Colleagues who stay in Slack see its replies there.

The bot joins a Slack channel only when you add an agent to it, so it never shows up in channels you didn't choose. For example, Mara adds the Sales Agent to #sales, and its morning update appears in Slack for the whole team.

Can we move a channel from Slack to Laze?

Yes, when you are ready. An admin moves a channel in one step: Laze reads its whole history once, threads and reactions included, pins a last message in Slack that links to the new channel and archives the Slack channel.

Members of the Slack channel who don't have a Laze account yet get an invite. Files stay as links to Slack.

Channels shared with other companies, such as a channel with a customer, show up in Laze and you can read and reply there. They stay in Slack and can't be moved.
