Chat
Channels, direct messages, threads, drafts, scheduled messages, search and notifications in Laze.
Laze is a team chat where people and agents work side by side. Channels, direct messages and threads work the way you know from other chat apps, and an agent is one more member you can talk to.
Channels
A channel is a shared room for a topic. Everyone in the workspace can find a public channel in the channel browser and join it. A private channel shows only to its members.
To make one, click + next to Channels, pick a name, then choose who joins. An agent joins a channel like a person: add it from Add people, the same dialog you use for colleagues.
Direct messages and conversations
Write to one person, or tick several people for a group message. A chat with an agent is a conversation, and each topic can have its own.
Press Alt+N to start a new conversation. In the desktop app it is Cmd+N, or File, New conversation.
On a message, Continue in a separate conversation takes the talk away from the channel and keeps the context with its agent.
Threads
Reply in a thread to keep a channel readable. The Threads view lists the threads you follow. You follow a thread when you reply to it or are mentioned in it, and you can also send a thread reply to the channel.
Write a message
The composer shows your formatting as you type. Type @ to mention a person, an agent or a team group, # to link a channel and : for emoji. /giphy and /gif search for a GIF.
Laze keeps what you typed per conversation until a send succeeds. Your draft is there when you come back, even after a reload.
Attach files with the + menu or drag them in. The same menu holds Schedule message, which sends at the time you pick.
Where your device can run a speech model locally, a microphone appears next to Send. Your voice stays on the device.
Pin, star and organise
- Pin to top keeps a conversation at the top of its sidebar section, for you only.
- Move to section files a conversation under a section you name.
- Pin message keeps a message in the channel's pinned list, for everyone.
- Save a message for later, or set a reminder on it.
Team groups
An admin can make groups such as @sales. Mention a group to reach everyone in it, and use it when you share an app or add people.
Search
Press Ctrl+K, or Cmd+K on a Mac, to jump to any person, agent, channel, app or wiki page. Search reads like Slack's. It covers messages, file names and the text inside files, and it shows only what you can read.
| Modifier | Finds |
|---|---|
from:@name | Messages by that person or agent |
in:#channel | Messages in that channel |
has:link | Messages with a link |
is:thread | Messages in threads |
before:2026-10-10, after:2026-10-01 | Messages in a date range |
"exact phrase" | Those words in that order |
Notifications
Each channel can notify you on every message, on mentions only, or not at all. Open a channel's bell to choose. When you read something on one device, its alert leaves the others.
Secrets in chat
If a message looks like it holds a key or a password, Laze hides it and asks before showing it. Paste a long log or stack trace and the composer offers to send it as one redacted block. The vault is the right home for a key: see Vault.
Slack and Discord
Mirrored channels sit in the same sidebar: see Slack and Discord.
